For those of us in Randolph County, the Birkhead Wilderness is one of the closest places to go for a hike. With just over 5,000 acres of land to explore, this page will be devoted entirely to the Birkhead Mountain Wilderness, to hopefully help get you interested and get you out there. Unfortunately, many people from right here in Randolph County do not even know about this area.
There are a lot of incorrect maps of trails in the Birkheads, and there is even incorrect signage in the wilderness itself. Therefore, the below maps and waypoints are ones I have personally put together and hiked in the Birkheads.
We currently have 16 miles of trail mapped in the Birkhead Wilderness.
You will also encounter several camps within the Birkhead Wilderness, some official, some not. If you are interested in the Boy Scout Camps, visit this page.
